Brrr .. it's cold outside! Even so, if it's not too cold we go outside in mid-morning and at lunch hour. Please remind your child to bring or wear warm clothes including snowpants, a hat and mitts / gloves. This week we have been learning about compound words and have been "word hunting" while reading on our own or with a partner. Today we found these compound words... downstairs, without, everything, gentlemen, strawberry, anyone, ourselves, bedroom and basketball. We also did a "quick write" which is when we write as many ideas about a word in specified time (~4 min). The words today were: Winter, Family and Games. When doing a "quick write" we are working on brainstorming and writing ideas without focusing on editing. We also are trying to make connections in our thinking as well as using descriptive vocabulary. Words written about family included: special, loving, forever, together and fun.
In Science, we recorded the steps we followed to make our Ice Elf and described in words and / or pictures what happened to our Ice Elf when we left it out of the freezer. Here is what it looked like this morning.
Tomorrow it might be a puddle of water :(
Important reminders:
1) Return signed report card envelope.
