On Friday we will be having a small pancake breakfast. The pancakes will be supplied. If anyone would like to send in fruit that is pre-washed and cut, please email Mrs. McLarty. Thanks :)
Today we finished up our Acadian Village buying and building. Then we made boats that float. It was tricky and took awhile to test and retest. In gym we were challenged by the obstacle course again. After recess Mrs. Healing came into our room and taught us about boats and her adventures on a sailing boat on the West coast. Before lunch we played Yahtzee and practiced adding 5 dice. In the afternoon we finished our ABC of Acadia booklet which was sent home with lots of other books. For art we created a new self portrait and glued it in our scrap books which were also sent home. Look at how I have changed and grown as an artist!

Hello everyone!
Sorry it has been so long since a blog posting. My login for Weebly had some glitches and is now working. Only a few more days until summer break. It is hard to imagine the past 10 months have flown by. Your children's growth is amazing and an honour to be a part of. The past few days we have been planning, purchasing and building our Acadian Village. As well, we are almost finished our Acadian booklet. Yesterday we did T is for Tourism and U is for United. Today we did V is for Village and W is for Wigwam. Please return any Evergreen Library books or home reading books. Thank you! Students can wear their Little Green Thumbs t-shirt tomorrow if they want. We will be having a Little Green Thumb and June Birthday celebration with smoothies, salsa and pita. We have picked our last green pepper and some tomatoes to add into the salsa. We will be transplanting our tomato plant into the garden outside tomorrow. Over the summer feel free to get a cherry tomato - hopefully they will grow.
Today we released our butterflies. Most of them flew away. A few had wings that looked a bit crumpled. We are wondering whether they needed more time to form or if they just didn't grow properly. This morning we planted a butterfly garden. Tomorrow we will release all our butterflies!
Our mystery word this week has the following letters: a, i, i, o, n, n, r, s, s, t, t We did the letter K in our ABC's of Acadia booklet. K is for King George II who was the king of Britain when the Acadians were deported. In gym we played Gold Rush after our personal best warm up. To finish the day we had art but the project is a secret ... :) Please return library books asap. As a school we will be having a practice evacuation walk to Our Lady of Evergreens on Tues. June 23 at 1:30.
If you are available to volunteer, please email Mrs. McLarty. Thanks :) Another great morning! We met with our Grade 4 buddies and played math games. Then we worked on our Acadian books for the letter I and J. I is for island (almost) and J is for jigs. We listened to and danced to some jigs. Then we released some of our butterflies. Not all of them wanted to fly away so we brought them back inside. We came up with lots of theories as to why they may not be ready to go. At the end of the morning, we went to the Kindergarten assembly. Their celebration of learning was fantastic!
We had a great morning at Fish Creek thanks to our wonderful parent volunteers! We saw so many neat bugs and other parts of nature. Ask me what I saw. Also when we arrived today 3 more of our butterflies came out of their chrysalis'. In the afternoon there were so many more!! We spent a lot of time watching them. Do you know that there is a red liquid called maconium that drips from their wings?
They are so beautiful and interesting to watch. Please return Library book by Tuesday June 16th. We will still do home reading until the last week. Tomorrow we will be going for a community walk to Fish Creek. We will be leaving at 10:00 am after snack and returning for lunch time. Please ensure your child has sunscreen, hat and water.
We will be exploring for BUGS! Guess what? Today our first butterfly came out of it's chrysalis. So exciting!! This morning we saw a few interesting time-lapse short clips of a caterpillar forming a chrysalis and then a butterfly emerging from it's chrysalis. So cool! We are really excited for when our butterflies come out.
After Daily 5 we began planning out and making our Acadian Village. We put on the ocean, dykes and roads. Ask me why people build dykes. In the afternoon we wrote very quietly in our journals and then created a butterfly life cycle spinner. For gym, we stayed inside because it was so hot and played a few tag games and "Keep it Clean." At the end of the day we began an Acadian story called Fiddles and Spoons and then we joined our whole school to clean up the playground and field. Important notes:
1) Peer spelling is done for the year - no more words will be sent home for practice. 2) Home reading books still being exchanged. Yesterday we pulled our wheat, carrots and onions. THe wheat has dried and we are looking at the kernels. Unfortunately the carrots and onions didn't grow. We think they may have been overwatered or maybe they were competing with the other plants too much. This morning after "ketchup" and "pickle" time and finished a lot!! Afterwards, we enjoyed a wonderful Grade 4 assembly. They played the drums, bells, recited a funny science poem, shared about Science School, showed us a slide show and sang to us. It was fantastic! |
