Goodbye Mr. Craig  :(

We have been working on writing a class letter to Mr. Craig as tomorrow is his last day.  Your child may want to write their own letter or draw a picture to give to him tomorrow.    We are very sad he is leaving but happy for his new opportunity as a principal.

In the morning we worked hard during Literacy practicing our reading and writing skills.  We are learning to look at the text for words to write and check to make sure we are understanding what we are reading.  We also had gym-music flip flop.

In the afternoon we did a fabulous job problem solving and working collaboratively with our partner to complete another WeDo project.  We are excited to share our projects with our classmates next week and with families at Conferences in a few weeks.

Important notes:
1) April sharing calendar was emailed to families today.  Please let Mrs. McLarty know if you did not receive it.  The topic is sharing a book recently read.  If the book is short it can be read to the class or your child can give a brief summary about the book.  As well, the book can be fiction or non-fiction

Spiders & Castles!

We had an excitement this morning when 2 spiders visited our class, one in the morning and then another just before lunch!  We are wondering where they came from.  After being very startled we practiced our deep belly breathing to calm down.  We captured both and took them outside to continue their life in the wild.

In the afternoon, Ms. Barchuk worked with us to look closely at different drawings of castles.  We identified how each drawing added more details, shapes, colors, foreground and background.  Our ideas showed excellent thinking.  We then worked on creating our own drawings of castles using the models as an example.  We were proud of our castles and shared with our classmates what parts we were happy with.

Welcome back after Spring Break!
Today we shared and wrote about our holidays.  When we wrote we concentrated on writing a clear message.  As well, we focused on beginning our sentences with capitals letter and ending with punctuation.  Many students used exclamation marks because they were excited about the fun they had over the holidays.  We also used capitals letters for the first letter of people or places we went to like Edmonton or Mexico.  We are also using spaces between words very well.
Our new popcorn words this week are:
* were  * stop * fast  * ride  * him
We practiced printing our popcorn words on our min- whiteboards and wrote rhymes for many words.
In the afternoon we had a table change, music, recess in the sunshine and "ketchup" up time.

In the afternoon we drew a Leprechaun leaping.  Tomorrow we will be coloring it.
This morning we also read How High Can a Dinosaur Count? which had math problems in it.  We had to listen to the riddles and decide whether to add or subtract.

We were very fortuante today to be invited to watch Mrs. Predika's class perform shadow puppet plays in the Learning Commons.  We were impressed that they made their own scripts and puppets.  Ask me which play was my favorite.  In the morning we continued working on our WeDo projects.  We are doing a fantastic job sharing; as well as, building, problem solving and programming together.
