Our Grade 2 Exploration Gallery will be this Friday June 23rd at 9:45 – 10:45. Parents are asked to arrive at the back doors on the compound where Mrs. Sherwood and the Grade 2 teachers will invite you in. Parents will have the opportunity to go with their child to visit the Grade 2 classes and tour our Why Explore? work.
Over the past days, we have been ‘Very Busy Spiders’ creating collage insects in the style of Eric Carle. We have also been busy writers composing pieces of writing to accompany our work that we are sharing on Friday. We are very excited to have families come to celebrate our learning. Grade 2s will be singing for our volunteers tomorrow at the Volunteer Tea. Please have your child dress nicely to perform. We look forward to seeing as many volunteers as possible to show our appreciation!
Our Grade 2 Explore Gallery is next Friday June 23rd from 9:45 - 10:45. Your child will be touring you around to see their work as well as their fellow Grade 2 peers. Please RSVP by emailing Mrs. McLarty if you haven't already done so. It will be helpful to know if you plan to attend so we can plan accordingly. This week we have been very busy preparing for our Explore Gallery by working on writing and selecting pieces to share. We have also been creating symmetry art and a 'special' project. :) This morning we had a lockdown practice. Everyone did a fantastic job gathering in our space and being quiet. Well done, Grade 2s!
Today there is a lot of work that is being sent home and it can stay at home. We will no longer have any Friday time for Home Journal. This Friday is Volunteer Tea and the students will be performing. We are asking students to dress nicely for the performance with no ripped clothes. The following Friday is our Grade 2 Explore Gallery. For our class it will be at 9:45 - 10:45. Please RSVP if you haven't done so already. The Learning Commons is officially closed for the year. Please have your child return any books asap. Students can continue to take out home reading books. Throughout the year at Evergreen we having been work on showing:
Respect for our Self Respect for Others Respect for our Space Recently we have had more discussions about: - showing respect for ourselves by focusing on doing our best work - showing respect for others by keeping our hands to ourselves and saying kind words - showing respect for our space by taking care of our class materials and outdoor equipment At Evergreen, we often use the IMATT strategy to help students solve social problems. I - Ignore the person's behavior M - Move away from the person bothering you A - Ask the person to stop T - Tell the person to stop T - Tell an adult Upcoming dates: 1) Volunteer Tea - next Friday June 16th -Grade 2s will be performing 2) Grade 2 - Explore Gallery - please see invitation sent home and RSVP Students are bringing home an invitation today for our Grade 2 Exploration Gallery.
It will be on Friday June 23rd at 9:45 - 10:45. It will be an opportunity to visit all the Grade 2 classes with your child and tour our Why Explore? work. Our mystery word letters this week are: a o u c c g h k n s w Today we reflected about our field trip to Bar U Ranch. We thought about the 5Ws (who, what, where, when, why) and our 5 senses to describe our trip. We documented our thoughts and feelings in our Explorer journal by using words and labeled pictures. We also worked on a problem in math: Walk for ALS - If everyone in the class, including Mrs.McLarty, donates a loonie and toonie, how much money would we donate? We had extra challenge questions too. ALS Donations are still being accepted. What a busy interesting day filled with new sights and learnings at the Bar U Ranch.
We enjoyed 4 different rotations: * Going on a wagon ride pulled by 2 beautiful strong percheron horses * Taking a hike with Bruce who shared about changes due to the flood in 2013. He also showed us old barns and explained how old farming equipment worked. * Visiting 'Round up Camp' where we sat by a campfire and learned about cowboy ranching history. * Touring the "Belly of the Bar U" where we went in a ice house, food storage shed and a building where they used to generate only enough electricity for 1 light bulb! We also went in an old ranch house where the cowboys ate and slept. The kitchen had so many different artifacts including an old stove. Outside we also saw an old washing machine (washboard & ringer), a chicken coop, garden and we even went down into a root cellar. In the afternoon the skies darkened and we did our last rotation in the rain. We felt a small amount about how hard life was for the cowboys. I think many were thankful for a warm dry bus. nWe will be going to Bar U Ranch on Monday. Please ensure that your child is prepared with:
* proper clothing for the weather (good walking shoes, hat, rain jacket), * sunscreen applied before coming to school * lunch and snacks * water bottle Volunteers will also need to bring a lunch / water. Please meet in our classroom at 8:00 for an 8:15 departure. Students received a basil plant as a gift to families. Enjoy watching it grow and pinching off leaves to add to salads, soups and sauces. Please help your child prepare for our Walk for ALS tomorrow afternoon by having them wear good walking shoes, a hat and bring a water bottle.
We would also like the students to: 1) Wear a purple shirt ( green or white if your child doesn't have purple one). 2) Donate a loonie, toonie or more. We have been working on a dance in gym which all of the Evergreen students will be doing together before our walk in the community and part of Fish Creek Park. In class we have been writing our 'exact instructions' for our magnet game. When we are done we have the opportunity to share / explain our game to our classmates. Students also have the chance to play each other's games. In math we have been working on a Bowling Problem. We have been using a 'trial and error' strategy. We have also been persisting to solve it. When an immediate solution isn't obvious we've also needed to be flexible and try another way. The problem is: Your class is going bowling. Arrange all your classmates into bowling lanes so that: * Every bowling lane has 4 or less bowlers in it * No bowling lane has just 1 girl or just 1 boy in it How many lanes do you need? Important note: If the ALS link isn't working for you - try this one.https://secure.e2rm.com/registrant/LoginRegister.aspx?eventid=223231&langpref=en-CA&Referrer=direct%2fnone We will be collecting toonie and loonie donations for ALS. We asked the students to "earn" the money by helping with different jobs around the house. We will be walking in the Evergreen community and into Fish Creek. The walk is about 3 km and has a hill down into Fish Creek and a hill pathway back out. Students will need to have good walking shoes, a hat and water bottle.
Evergreen for ALS Our Kick-Off Walk for ALS will be this Thursday, June 1st @ 1:00pm. Our entire school community will be out in full force to raise awareness for ALS and to support our teacher and friend, Mrs. Y. Please use the link below if you would like to make an online donation. Cash donations are always welcome! Please remember to wear a PURPLE shirt (green or white if you don't have purple) Our School ALS Donation Page with the ALS Society of Alberta: EVERGREEN FOR ALS . We thank you for your support! |
