We listened to a really silly story on Bookfliks about our teeth called . In math we used our 100 carpet to graph different Spring activities we are doing. Then we surveyed our classmates and made our own graph. To finish the day we had a wonderful Grade 1 assembly about The Important Thing about Fairy Tales and The Important Thing about Mrs. McAsey. It was great to see her again but we were also sad. We look forward to her visiting us again soon!
Today was exciting! We got to paint our clay butterflies. They look beautiful and symmetrical. We also had our class photos. In gym we used balloons with badminton rackets which was really fun.

We also finished our read aloud Polar Bear Patrol and listened to Leo the Late Bloomer. Our new poem this week is called ... Butterflies A child is like a butterfly in the wind. Some can fly higher than others. But each one flies the best it can. Why compare one to another? Each one is different. Each one is special. Each one is beautiful. We have been very fortunate to have an Artist in Residence work with our class. Today was our second day of working with clay to make beautiful butterflies. On Friday we learned how to roll out the clay, use water to join pieces and create designs suing a variety of tools. Ask me what I worked on. After recess we listened to the story - The Curious Garden & Helping Out Out Earth. Did you know tomorrow is Earth Day? Our new poem was all about ways to take care of our earth. In Science we finished our experiment about absorbing water by writing a reason why we thought some papers absorbed water more than others. We also did another experiment about oil and water. Ask me what I discovered. In the afternoon we practiced our writing. We wrote our own ideas or used picture prompts. One picture was of a cat wearing a crown and the other was of a giraffe climbing a tree. Both were silly. In math we played subtraction BINGO and then practiced 2-digit subtraction and addition. To finish our day we had music where we used popsicle sticks to practiced tapping the rhythm to songs. Message for the Day Important notes:

We predicted and observed that the paper towel absorbed the most and the wax paper absorbed the least. Ask me what other papers we tested. We also learned more about water floods and droughts from TruFliks. Message for the Day BE A FRIEND Today we met with our Gr. 4 buddies. They showed us their art sketches, fossil molds and writing. We gave Mrs. McAsey the card we made for her. We were sad to say good-bye. After gym we listened to the story, The Gift of the Inukshuk.

During early morning reading tub time, s tudents have the opportunity to do a book exchange as needed. This morning in Writing we looked at 2 different pictures and brainstormed descriptive words about the characters and possible problems. In gym we did a partner warm up and used the rubbery pom-poms with mini bouncy frisbees. They are challenging to control. After we had Daily 5 . Ask me what book I am reading in my guided reading group and whether it is a fiction or non-fiction book. In the afternoon we added more ideas to 'My Very Last First Times' booklet. In math we wrote as many equality questions as possible such as: 50 + 50 = 90 + 10 or 25 - 5 = 10 + 10 or 8 + 2 + 1 = 4 + 7 or 100 - 25 = 25 + 25 + 25 At the end of the day we learned about Inuit Printmaking. Ask me how we made our own stencil and what design I made. Tomorrow we will use the rollers and paints to make prints with different colours. Important notes:
