Today we practiced for our concert again. We are getting ready and so excited for Thursday. We have also been working on a holiday surprise. In the morning we learned a new poem called Gingerbread House. Ask me what happened to the house throughout the week. At the end of the day we listened to another Gingerbread Story called Gingerbread Pirate.
Our concert times are: Thursday at 10:00 am and 6:30 pm. For the evening performance please have your child come to our classroom at 6:10 pm. Costume is dressy for a party look. *** No new popcorn words this week. *** Important reminders: 1. Please return report card envelope signed. 2. Please return home journal. 3. Bring back library books so they can be exchanged for the holidays Message from Grade 4 CANSTRUCTION TEAM Our grade four design team is just about ready to begin their Canstruction® project on Tuesday afternoon for the Calgary Food Bank. This year’s theme is nature. The grade 4 design team has decided to extend their learning about the regions of Alberta and build a model of the Rocky Mountains. They have already received a number of colour specific donations for their creation. At this time they are still looking for donations of cans or boxes, specifically withbrown/black/grey, green and blue coloured labels. All food donations are gratefully accepted and can be dropped off at the school office anytime up until Tuesday at noon. Thank you for your support of this project which in turn will go to support needy Calgarians. Today we worked very hard practicing for our concert on Thursday. Ask me what my favourite song is.

We enjoyed reading books together in the Learning Commons. Many of us wrote about our time together in our Home Journals. We worked on writing 2 -3 sentences. We also made an oil pastel Elf on the Shelf. We learned a new word today - vibrant - to describe the colours.
Important notes: 1) Report cards sent home today 2) Please read and return the Home Journal. This morning we had gym - music flip flop. Ask me what my favourite parts were.
With our celebration sharing, we have been learning about Christmas, Hanukkah & Eid traditions from our classmates. It has been very interesting. Before lunch we observed, drew and wrote about our new plants. So far, we can see the stem, roots, seed from the bean and new leaves. We know that plants need soil, light and water to survive. In the afternoon, we did a gingerbread graph and a missing gingerbread mini-poster from the story Gingerbread Man Loose in the School. At the end of the day we listened to Gingerbread Baby. Ask me how it is the same and different than the Gingerbread Man. Important reminders: 1) Return home journal for tomorrow 2) Report card being sent home tomorrow Today we worked on many unfinished tasks:
* a gingerbread math problem * our family traditions drawing & writing * making a "tool belt" for our calming strategies which we will be bringing home tomorrow * adding our goal and strategies into IRIS Ask me what I read in Literacy today. Everyone is doing a great job using reading strategies like: * looking at picture clues * looking at the first sound and end sounds * thinking about what makes sense * recognizing many popcorn words Did you know we planted seeds last week and they have started to grow!! Do you know the story of the Gingerbread Man? Ask me to retell it. We listened to the version where the fox tricks the gingerbread to come closer and then he eats him up as a tasty snack. We also listened to another version called Gingerbread Man is Loose in the School. Ask me what happened to the gingerbread in that story and how it is the same and different than the first one we listened to.
We had a music practice this morning. We are learning our actions and doing a great job following along. We are excited to show you next week! Did you hear that we had something hopping in our room by the door when we were leaving last Thursday? After some observing, we thought it was a cricket or a grasshopper because of it's long legs and that it hopped. We were wondering where it came from and what to do with it? Take a look at the photo below. What do you think it is? Our new popcorn words are: * for * up * down * on *in
Canstruction Evergreen School will be participating once again in the annual Canstruction® event in December for the Calgary Food Bank. A group of grade 4 students has taken on the challenge to think like engineers, designers, architects and builders to create an extraordinary structure all out of cans of food which, after judging, will be then de- canstructed, with all food going to the Calgary Food Bank. This year’s theme is nature. The grade 4 design team has decided to extend their learning about the regions of Alberta and build a model of the Rocky Mountains. In order to make their vision come true, they are looking for canned and boxed food donations. Specifically, they are looking for: Catelli 500g spaghetti Blue menu cans (Superstore) Bottled water with blue lids Del Monte green cans Great Value white canned foods Clover Leaf Flaked White Tuna – black label All food anytime next week. Thank you for your support of this project which in turn will go to support needy Calgarians. A busy, fun day! In the morning we had our literacy rotations. Ask me what I worked on and if I can tell you the popcorn words of the week. Then we had our gym-music flip/flop. We learned new tricks in basketball. Ask me to show you a trick or two. In math we practiced our addition facts playing Dice Baseball with a "sticker partner." In the afternoon we wrote in our Home Journal. Let me read it to you and can you write back.
Guess what? We planted seeds today - cucumber, basil, beans, tomatoes, nasturtiums and peppers. We figured out that tomatoes and cucumbers were wanted by most people. Please look in folders as many things were sent home. Have a great weekend! P.S. Do you know the story Interrupting Chicken? Ask me what it is about. |
