Dear Parents,
Happy New Year! We can't believe it's January already! Crazy!
This morning we started off with Team Edit Tuesday. Afterwards Mrs. Stanford's group went to our first music lesson of the year. We played Charades. Mrs. Goodall's group read a book and got to know Mrs. Goodall. So far we have learned that she is from Edmonton and has taught for over 12 years! That means there are now 2 teachers in the room cheering for the Oilers (haha! yesssssss). When Mrs. Stanford's group came back we worked on two different literacy jobs. First we wrote a postcard to a person of our choosing. We made up addresses and made sure to add a stamp (of our own creations). The second job was to "Make a word". We used the letters from "Winter Break" to make other words. We are getting pretty good at this as our vocabulary gets bigger and bigger!
We then ate our snacks and watched a cosmic kids video on being mindful. It taught us about our emotions and what we can do to handle the different feelings we have throughout the day - especially when we feel frustrated. We stayed inside this morning instead of venture outside due to the wind chill (hello -27! yikes).
Afterwards we played crib. Our teachers wanted to see if we remembered the rules and could play on our own. Almost there! We still need to work on identifying numbers that add to 15 and counting on with cards. This would be a great skill to practice at home.
We were able to go outside for lunch recess since the wind chill calmed down. Mrs. Stanford was on supervision today and if we dressed properly, the weather wasn't too bad. Some of us do have to remember to wear thicker gloves!
This afternoon we wrote all about our Winter breaks and had time to share with the class. We also learned a new poem about January. Both groups then had our first gym class of the year! Wooohooo!
Here's to another great day tomorrow!
Love,
The Grade Twos
