The Grade Fours initiated a food bank drive to Scare Hunger this Halloween. Please bring your non-perishable food items to school tomorrow!
Dear Parents,
Today we scooped out our pumpkins and counted all of the seeds. It was messy and we enjoyed it! We had to sort out all of our playing cards and it was hard work. Then we played Go Fish, looking for friendly matches to 10. Tomorrow we can dress up in Halloween costumes if we would like for the day...it is a choice, we don't have to. If you have weapons or masks that go with the costume, please leave them at home. We also don't want scary costumes at school! We appreciate the offers to bring treats in, but are saying no, thank you. We have children with allergies that can't share them as well as healthy food guidelines to follow. In the afternoon, we will be doing crafts with all of the Grade One classes. We are coming home with the passwords for Raz-Kids in our blue folders as well as tickets for the Halloween Howl if you purchased them. Love, The Grade Ones Home reading books were sent home today. The kids chose a book based on interest. When they are finished with the book, please send them back in their communication folders so they can get a new one.
Raz-kids has been set up. Usernames and passwords will be sent home tomorrow. Have a great night. Dear Parents,
This morning we headed outside for PE because the gym is being used for inline skating. We played tag and relay games. It was a little chilly! In music we played games and practiced "Old Man Winter". Get me to sing it to you :) In math we estimated how many seeds were in our pumpkins. We will be cutting them open and counting the seeds tomorrow. After lunch we made plans for what we wanted to plant in our classroom garden. Our choices were: Purple beans, tiny tomatoes, snap peas, basil, carrots (round kind), peppers, onions, salad mix and cucumbers. Please remember to dress warmly because we will be going outside for gym! Reminder: Tomorrow is "Walking Wednesday" and costumes can be worn on Thursday. Love, The Grade Ones Dear Parents,
Today we had pumpkins that we measured. We measured with links to see how big around it was. We used cubes to measure how tall it was. We all have a different pumpkin to work with. For PE we did rollerblading. We had to put of safety gear so we were safe if we fell. For Ms. Watkins, we have our next inline skating on Nov 4th and Mrs. Stanford on Nov 5th. On October 29th the Grade Fours are collecting cans of non-perishable food for the Calgary Food Bank. Our new popcorn words are: said, book, car, house, but. Love, The Grade Ones We just received the schedule for our Alien In-line skating. We have our first lessons on Monday. Make sure your kiddos are wearing comfortable clothing and have their forms in.
The rest of our schedule is as follows: Wednesday, Nov. 4th - Watkins gym group Thursday, Nov. 5th - Stanford Gym group Monday, Nov. 9th - Watkins gym group Friday, Nov. 13th - Stanford gym group November 16th - Both gym Groups Reminder: Feel free to bring in your own helmet. Dear Parents,
Happy Friday! Today in Music we learned some new songs! Afterwards we had "Ketchup and Pickles" time. A lot of us had to finish our artwork from yesterday. They are looking fantastic. Ask me what I did for "pickles". Today we sadly said goodbye to a classmate who is moving to Texas. We will keep in touch through the blog! We ended the day with a poem about Pumpkins and a visit from Mrs. Otterson and her adorable baby James. We were soo happy to see her! James is crazy cute :) Alien In-line skating starts Monday! Please remember to sign and return the forms if you haven't done so already. It's going to be a blast! Love, The Grade Ones Dear Parents,
Today our Grade One community worked together on a document telling about what we saw, heard, felt and smelled in Fish Creek yesterday. We also talked and drew about jobs people do in our community and what we would like to do. We made a portraits about what we would like to be when we grow up. We used pencils, Sharpies and pastels. In gym we watched a video about inline skating. We need to know our shoe size for rollerblades next week. If we have a helmet (no masks attached) at home, we can bring it for rollerblading. We have many of our forms back for Alien InLine Skating, if you have not signed them, please do so soon! Love, The Grade Ones ATTENTION: Volunteers Needed for Upcoming Casino! We are less than two weeks away and short 10 volunteers.
Did you know that Evergreen School Parent Advisory Council has raised over $140,000 since the school opened? We expect to raise over $60,000 by volunteering for our upcoming casino on November 1 and 2, but need your help to fill volunteer roles!! Our casino funds have paid for our school playground and naturalization area, artists-in-residence to teach their talents at the school, books for the learning commons, computers, iPads, cameras and other electronics used by students in the classroom, and a new set of handbells for our music program. We are lucky enough to volunteer at a casino every 21 months or so, and may lose this valuable fundraiser if we are unable to staff the upcoming event. - No experience required!! - It's FUN!! - It's easy!! - Meals, snacks, refreshments provided. - Do not need a criminal records check through the school. - Can ask friends, neighbours, the grandparents. - Get a babysitter and make it a date-night! - The shifts may be awkward hours, but remember this is only once in a two year period and provides a huge benefit to the children attending the school. If you would like to sign up for a shift at our casino please visit www.volunteersignup.org/QJ4MD or email [email protected] Dear Parents,
Today we walked to Fish Creek park. We were thirsty after all that walking. It took us 15 minutes to get there. We walked and listened for animals. We looked for signs of life. We looked for bones and things the animals ate. We drew some pictures and took pictures. In the morning we went to the gym. We learned about rollerblading. We have some forms coming home about inline skating. Some us us played a game where you did yoga poses when you got tagged. A big thank you to our adults that came with us on the walk! We could not go without your help! Love, The Grade Ones |
