Dear Parents,
This morning we learned a new poem about the March wind. We looked for rhyming words and popcorn words. We talked about the early signs of Spring. Have you noticed any Spring-like changes? In gym we practiced our new warm-up and then worked on partner passes with Hula Hoops. Ask me the trick to make the hoop come back to you! This afternoon we listened to the story of the "Three Billy Goats Gruff". There were a lot of us who had never heard this story. Afterwards we introduced the idea of script writing. We then wrote a journal entry about our Spring Break or favorite vacation. It sounds like Spring break was eventful for many of us. Disney and Mexico were busy with Evergreen students! Enjoy your evening! Love, The Grade Ones Dear Parents,
Welcome to Spring! We hope you enjoyed Spring Break. This morning we learned a new warm-up in gym. There were different stations that we had to move through and at each station there was a different activity. Ask me which station was the most challenging! Ask me what game we played in music (the teacher is having a hard time explaining it!) In Math, we solved an Easter Egg problem counting by fives! This afternoon we learned how to draw a Princess. We chose a princess because we are studying Fairy Tales and often times a Princess is involved! Enjoy the sunshine! Love, The Grade Ones Dear Parents,
We learned how to make a salad using the lettuce from our own garden. Most of us thought that lettuce tasted different than our usual store lettuce. It was 10 minutes fresh from the garden! We are working on making a kaleidoscope. We used a triangle shape on the inside of the circular tube. We think it is for making the sunlight reflect on the inside. Some of us learned new words in literacy today, ask me what I learned during literacy. One more day until Spring Break! It's St. Patrick's Day tomorrow, wear green. Love, The Grade Ones Dear Parents,
This morning we watched shadow puppet plays made by the grade 4s! They are studying the First Nations and created their own legends. They put a ton of effort into their stories, reading with expression and creating really cool shadow puppets! It got us thinking about our Three Little Pigs puppet show and what we could do to make ours better. In math we measured a GIANT footprint using different objects around the room. We pretended that the footprint was the Giant's in Jack and the Beanstalk. We talked about the length and width of the footprint and how one unit of measurement can be different then another. For example, measuring with Mrs. Stanford's foot would give you a different number then measuring with a student's foot. Tomorrow we are going to compare items in the classroom that are bigger/smaller than the footprint. This afternoon we continued on with our Fairy Tale letters. These letters are fantastic and we can't wait to share them with you! We hope you enjoy your evening! Love, The Grade Ones Dear Parents,
Welcome to the last week of school before Spring Break! With it being the last week before our break and Spring Forward, all of us were a little sleepy this morning. It was hard getting up and coming to school in the dark. Hopefully we will be a little more bright eyed and bushy tailed tomorrow! Did you know that today is Pi day?!?! It is March 14th, aka. 3.14! We celebrated in gym by playing a game called Pie! The object of the game was to carry a pie (a disc) in one hand while trying to tip over someone else's pie. If our pies got knocked off we had to do a splat! We had a blast! Our garden is really starting to grow! Exciting things are happening! Our beanstalk is getting really high and reaching for the window. Let me tell you about the rest of our garden! This afternoon we started letters to Fairy tale characters. We chose a character from one of the stories we have been studying (Three Little Bears, Goldilocks and the Three Bears and Jack and the Beanstalk) and wrote a letter to another character from that story. For example, some of us are writing letters from the Giant to Jack. They are brilliant letters! Funny! We are writing them on fancy paper and them putting them in envelopes. Mr. Craig came in when we were discussing our letters and said that if we submitted 5 letters to him, he will pretend to be the character and write back to us! We are so excited about this! Our teachers are too! We can't wait to work on them again tomorrow! Have a great night! Love, The Grade Ones Dear Parents,
This morning we got to watch the Evergreen's Got Talent show. We had many favourites, you can ask me what my favourite was! We wrote our weekly letter to you! Please remember to write back to us and tell us one thing that is getting better about our writing and one thing we could do to make our writing even better. We put a lot of effort into our writing and love getting letters back from you :) We read another version of "Goldilocks and the Three Bears", this one was called, "Three Snowy Bears" by Jan Brett. Ask me for one similarity and one difference between the two stories. Have a great weekend! Love, The Grade Ones Dear Parents,
This afternoon we acted out our Three Little Pigs puppet shows. Two of us acted while two of us were the audience and did some feedback for the performers. We told them one thing they did well and one thing they could do better next time. Then, we worked on some art using a method called "pointillism". Ask me what we used and what we had to do to make a fruit picture? In PE today we continued working with the same equipment but added a challenge of playing for points with another team. Ask me how many times I got to move and play another partner group? Love, The Grade Ones Dear Parents,
In math we read the story, "100 Hungry Ants". The story is about ants that are on their way to a picnic. The smallest ant tries to organize them to get to the picnic faster. He makes them get into different sized rows. By the time they get there, everything is gone! Afterwards we tried to figure out the fastest way for ants to travel in rows using 20, 50 or 100 ants. Ask me what I came up with! This afternoon we worked together with our partners to create our "Three Little Pigs" puppet show. We learned how to work together to create the story and the actions. We are working on using big voices and making sure our puppets face the audience! Have a great night! Love, The Grade Ones Dear Parents,
Today we learned how to count by threes. Using a number line or hundreds chart was helpful. Going over 100 was really hard! We looked for numbers of 3s in the fairy tale stories we read. Some of us went into the Learning Commons and worked on building houses for the three little pigs out of blocks. We learned that when you build puppets, if you put the stick to hold up too far, there isn't much to hold onto. Did you know there are 23 more days left in March? We are going to build a kaleidoscope. If you have any paper towel or wrapping paper rolls that are finished, can we bring them to school? Love, The Grade Ones |
AuthorWe are a Grade Two class who blogs about our day at the end of each school day. This gives our parents hints to start conversations about our day. We also put reminders here for parents. Archives
