Today we went to the Grain Academy and learned about what the pioneers grew in Alberta fields and how. See if I can remember what grains grow here and how they were stored in the Grain Elevators? You can look at this picture from the Grain Academy and talk about what it tells us about Alberta and it's connections with grain to the rest of the world.
We also looked at the Stampede advertising posters from 1912 to now. There are three posters that are still missing - many of us would like to try and find them and get the reward! We looked at how they changed over the times and what they tell us about life in that year.
We got bean seeds in a cup of soil that we are bringing home. Here are the directions for growing them:
1. Water the soil to keep it moist (not too much)
2. Place the cup in a warm sunny place
3. Seed will sprout in 3-5 days
4. As it grows bigger, transplant into a larger pot or outside in the garden
(The bean was supplied by the grower members of the Alberta Pulse Grower Association)
Happy planting,
Love,
The Grade Twos
