It was a bit of a mixed-up day today! We had journals this morning where we wrote about the science experiments we have been doing and some of the vocabulary we have learned. In Math we wrote numbers into the 1000’s and then we represented different numbers using tally marks. We had Gym and then recess. After recess we had a teacher from Telus Spark here to give us a 2 hour orientation about Science School…ask me what experiments we got to do! This afternoon we did a run through of our winter musical!! WINTER MUSICAL Wednesday November 30th! There will be no school for students tomorrow! Important field trip permission and medical forms went home yesterday. Please send back on Monday. Thank you for all of the forms that were returned already!! We still require at least 8 more volunteers for our Science School field trip....Dec.5-9.....THANK you to those of you who are volunteering already!! We really couldn't do it without you!! Have a wonderful evening :) Dear Families,
What an exciting day we had!! Bobby Wills, a Dad of one of our students, as well as a country music performer came to our class to sing some songs and answer our many thoughtful questions. We really enjoyed hearing our favourite song "30,000 Feet" as it has been the inspiration behind both a writing piece we did and an art project. To top it off....we each got a CD to take home!!! A big thank you to Bobby Wills :) We also viewed more of Ted Harrison's artwork today and drew similarities and differences between his work and that of Norval Morrisseau's. In Math we represented numbers in various ways: using tallies, ten frames, base ten blocks, number lines, expanded form, making number sentences and skip counting patterns. Tomorrow is the Grade 1 Toy Sale with proceeds going to the Stephen's Backpack Society: Students will have time to shop with their class during the day on Thursday. Students may bring in their money to buy items or they can make a donation if they would like. The items are usually between $1-5 each and the sale will be in the learning commons this year. Reminders: *No school for students this Friday! *We are still very much in need of volunteers for our Science School trip the week of December 5-9. We need 2 more volunteers each day Mon-Thurs and 3 volunteers on Friday. Have a great evening! Love, The Grade 2's Dear Families,
This morning we had a run-through of our winter musical "The Big Chill". We also talked about our absorbency science experiment from yesterday and moved water drops together and then tried to split them apart. Ask me which was easier and why. We finished the morning with guided reading and literacy stations. This afternoon we did some skip counting patterns in math and labelled our Inuit artifact sketches with the correct titles. We talked about what each artifact was actually used for. Ask me what an ulu is and how it is used. We did cosmic kids yoga...it was about "Parsnip the cat". Pictures went home today. Re-takes also went home... Thank you to those who have volunteered for Science School....we still require at least 2 more volunteers for each day. Monday, Dec. 5, Tuesday, Dec. 6, Wednesday, Dec. 7, Thursday, Dec. 8 and Friday, Dec. 9. Have a good night! Dear Families,
It sure was chilly today! Please remember to send your child with a warm coat, mittens and a hat. Today in math we ordered numbers from least to greatest as well as from greatest to smallest. For a challenge some of us ordered numbers into the thousands! In writing, we are talking about making descriptive sentences. We had a picture to label and used our best describing words to tell about different parts of the picture. We did an experiment about 'mixing liquids' today. Ask me what two liquids did not mix. We also learned what the words miscible and immiscible mean ;) *Scholastic orders will be due tomorrow....I extended the date by a day! If your order is intended as a gift please let me know and I will give it to you directly or put it in a bag. *We are still in need of 12 volunteers for Science School!! Please let me know if you can help! Have a great evening :) Love, The Grade 2's This morning we talked about what an artist statement is and why artists create them. After brainstorming our ideas, we made an artist statement for Norval Morrisseau. We did a fantastic job explaining why painting was important to Morrisseau and also describing his style of art.
We had music where we practiced for our winter show... *Please....if you have a speaking part in the play...lines need to be memorized this week. A lot of you already know your lines...great job! We will be doing a run-through in our class tomorrow.* We also had guided reading and literacy stations this morning. Please remember to keep reading each evening.... This afternoon we filled in our results section of our paper clip experiment as well as discussed the scientific terms we have learned from each of our 'Exploring Liquids' experiments. This is fun :) We did a Harry Potter cosmic kids yoga as well as looked through and discussed a book about Inuit inventions. Ask me what snow goggles are used for... Have a lovely evening! Love, The Grade 2's p.s. We are still very short of volunteers for our Science School week Dec. 5-9. Please let me know if you are able to help! |
