Today we started off the morning being given 3 numbers (5, 7, 8) and we had to make at least 3 different numbers using them. We came up with 578, 587, 758, 785, 857, 875. We talked about the biggest and the smallest number and how we know which number is the biggest and the smallest. Ask me how I know.
To challenge those who finished quickly we looked at 4 and even 5 digit numbers.
We had our Monday morning sharing circle where we share with our classmates what we did on the weekend or any other news we feel we would like to talk about. As an audience, we try hard to be respectful and listen to each person and to think of a question to ask or a connection to make. It is a really great part of Monday :)
We went to Gym and learned some new warm-up stations. We were also introduced to a new game called Pickle ball; we are going to learn more about it next Gym day.
After recess we had our writing/spelling block. Some of us met with Mrs. Yacyshyn to practice spelling patterns while the rest of us were busy letter writing. We learned how to set up a paper to write a letter to someone. Some of us wrote letters to Mrs. Engelking asking if we might get a chance to help her with the Walking Wednesday draw. Others wrote letters to their last year's teacher. We are being encouraged to put down our words first as our ideas flow and then to go back and edit our spelling and punctuation using our 'Words' book.
This afternoon we learned about a famous person...he was a very exciting explorer of many different things.
Ask me who he was and what he was all famous for...
Each table group was given an object that most of us had never seen before. We had to sketch it just the way we saw it and then answer the questions...."I see..." "I think..." "I wonder..." We did an amazing job on this!
Learning Commons: We will be going to the Learning Commons as a group tomorrow. If your child would like to sign out new books please send back books from last week. Most have already been brought back :)
Raz-Kids: I have changed the access to allow students to read any book level as it wasn't letting me choose a range...I had put in the level as 1 or 2 above your child's current reading level to allow them to move up when ready, but it was only allowing that level to be read.
If you are not sure which level your student should be reading at, pop me an email and I will let you know which level they are reading at school ;)
Fall Items: If you happen to be out for a walk in the next few days and stumble upon some cool Fall items (leaves, acorns, pinecones, etc...) feel free to send a few in. We will be doing a little Fall sketching in our Explorer journals this week.
Have a wonderful evening :)
