Dear Families,
Wow! We are excited about the snow!!! :) We had a lot of interesting things to share about our weekend! A lot of those memories involved being outside with the snow :)
Today we started our day with a morning job that had us order a set of numbers from least to greatest. Our challenge numbers went into the thousands!! After our sharing circle we went to Music where we have been practicing songs for our concert! In Math we made numbers with our place value manipulatives. We each had our own place value mat and ones, tens, hundreds and thousands pieces. Some of us made 2 digit numbers (48, 17, 53) and some of us made 3 and 4 digit numbers (345, 897, 1342, 5641).
After recess we had our guided reading/literacy stations for an hour. Ask me what I did at this tiime.
This afternoon we did a lot of investigating with the Inuit kit. We looked at pictures, maps and artifacts from 5 different categories: geography, the Inuit people, plants, animals and resources. We visited the 5 stations and wrote down one thought or question we had about each different category, some of us had time to do more.
Part of us being explorers is to try and dig deep, make connections and try to find answers or possible answers to our own questions. One student today figured out that one of our "shiny" artifacts from the Resource table might be copper, because at the Geography table there was a map that showed where various Inuit groups lived. One of the Inuit groups was named the Copper Inuit. She made a connection and was correct :)
It was a great day of learning!!
A notice went home regarding picture day: it will be this Thursday, October 13.
We will be going to the Learning Commons tomorrow to switch books, so please send in books you have at home if your child would like to get new ones.
Thank you once again for sending in headphones and for those of you who sent in an extra pair!! I really appreciate it :)
Have a great evening..
Love,
