Dear Families,
Today we started with reading stations and morning routine. Next we had literacy centers. After literacy we had snack and story. For story today we read a book called Gingerbread Baby by Jan Brett. We are going to read lots of her books over December and January. After recess we did a gingerbread math problem. We had to see how many different gingerbread men we could make. In the afternoon we had musical practice and gym all together. When we came back we worked on our gingerbread posters.
Important Reminders:
Report Cards go home Friday Dec 11.
December 18 is the last ay of school before the winter break.
We have been very fortunate this term that we have had lots of help in the classroom from our student teacher and student educational assistants. However all of this lovely help will come to an end at the winter break. We are looking to set up some volunteers for the new year. We would love to have one or two people on Monday mornings to read word rings with students. We would also love some volunteers to read with students first thing on other mornings as well. If you feel that you can volunteer your time for one of our Mondays In January and you have a valid police clearance please email Mrs. Stuart. Thank you so much!
Evergreen School will be participating once again in the annual Canstruction® event in December for the Calgary Food Bank. A group of grade 4 students has taken on the challenge to think like engineers, designers, architects and builders to create an extraordinary structure all out of cans of food which, after judging, will be then de-canstructed, with all food going to the Calgary Food Bank.
This year’s theme is nature. The grade 4 design team has decided to extend their learning about the regions of Alberta and build a model of the Rocky Mountains. In order to make their vision come true, they are looking for canned and boxed food donations. Specifically, they are looking for:
· Catelli 500g spaghetti
· Blue menu cans (Superstore)
· Bottled water with blue lids
· Del Monte green cans
· Great Value white canned foods
· Clover Leaf Flaked White Tuna – black label
All food donations are gratefully accepted and can be dropped off at the school office anytime next week. Thank you for your support of this project which in turn will go to support needy Calgarians.
