Today we had our reading stations and morning routine to start our day. Then we worked on the next section of our story writing. We watched a video while we ate our snacks about water conservation. Ask me a few ways I learned that we can conserve water. After some outside recess time we started to look at making a timeline for Calgary. This involves some math and thinking about significant events in the past. We will continue to work on this for tomorrow! In the afternoon we did a gym and Stampede flip flop. In gym we worked with a partner and did warm ups and trying to develop a rally when throwing and catching. We also did a questions page that we are going to use when we go to Stampede School. At the end of the day we watched a Canadian Heritage Video about

Dear Families,
Today we started with some Ketchup work, working on our Sketchbook, our Painted Ponies, and some Art. We then went to flip flip gym and music. Ask me what I did in gym and music today. After snack we had Literacy Centres and then it was already lunch. The morning went by fast. This afternoon we looked at the last few artefacts in our Blackfoot Kit. Ask me which ones we saw today. Finally we cleaned the room up for conferences and had a practice run through. We had to be each others parents and talk through what we have learned. The most important question we talked about was WHY. Why do we learn these things? We are excited to share our learning with you tomorrow. Important Reminders
We look forward to seeing you tomorrow. Sincerely, Mrs Tipper and Mrs Stuart Dear Families,
We welcomed Jaclyn from the Little Green Thumbs program through the zoo, back to our class this morning. This was our last time to work with her this year. Today she taught us about germination and how roots grow. We have begun a new experiment to show how roots respond to water when growing. Ask me how I set up this experiment. We could even try it at home as well. After Little Green Thumbs we started writing the beginnings of our stories. We have done a lot of plans and got to choose one of those plans that we would like to make into a story. We are writing one part at a time. Today we started with the beginning. Ask me what ways we can start a story and what I did with mine. We had to use describing words, set up the setting, and develop the main character. After snack and break we looked at the Buffalo Kit again. We learned about a really neat artifact. Ask me what a Flaking Kit is, it's purpose, and who would use it. We are learning lots from the Museo Kit. Our teachers love being able to teach with it. In the afternoon we had Games Day in Gym and then had Flip Flop with music and continuing our story writing. Some people shared their beginnings in circle today. Ask me which was one I was interested in to hear more about. Important Reminders
Love The Grade 2s Dear Families,
Today was our short day Friday. They always feel like they fly by. We started with peer spelling today and I will have new words in my SMILE folder. Next we had another turn with the Blackfoot Kit. Ask me what artifact we looked at and sketched today. What was it made out of? Who would have used it? Why did they need an awl? Then we had snack. After snack we started some sunflower art. We had to start with a pencil drawing and then colour heavily in crayon. Next week we will batik them in black paint and water. Important Reminders: STAMPEDE SCHOOL forms for red stars are in SMILE folders today. Please return as soon as possible! Also forms for parents who have already signed up for a volunteer day. Thanks SO much to those who have already volunteered but we are STILL short of volunteers and desperately looking for some more help to meet our supervision ratio. Please sign up for a time for student -led conferences. The registration is on the school website. It is so valuable for your student to be able to show off their work to you. Student Led conferences Thursday March 19 (no school for students) Professional day Friday March 20 (no school for students) Spring Break Monday March 23 to Friday March 27 (no school for students) Back to class Monday March 30 Love the Grade Twos Dear Families,
Today we started with our morning routine and reading stations and then we had our gym and music flip flop. In gym we did dancing for Muscular Distrophy with Mrs. Roworth. When we came back we had snack and read a bit about the Blackfoot people and what they used for houses and how they lived as a community. Next we had our literacy centers. After lunch we did a choice of DEAR or Yoga and then we had another turn with the Blackfoot kit. We looked at 3 artifacts today. Ask me to tell you about them. What were they called? Who used them? What were they made out of Dear Families,
Today we started with our usual reading centers and morning routine and then we had our just write time. Today we were working in our journals. We wrote about what we did in swimming or school last week. The twist was we got to do our picture first as a plan for what we were going to write. Then we completed our cowboy alphabet book that we started last week before we went outside for recess. When we came back in we got our first turn with the Blackfoot Artifact Kit. We had a reminder about how to handle these valuable artifacts and then we got to look at and gently touch the first artifact. Ask me to tell you about what our first artifact was today. What was it made out of? What was it used for? Who would have used it? After lunch we came back in to class and sketched our artifact and labelled it. Then we had sketchbook ketchup time. We were working on all our pages from last week and we also had gym. In gym we had time to just start learning a new target game. At the end of the day we cleaned up and looked at some examples of real painted ponies in a fancy book of Mrs. Tipper's. Important Reminders: We are in desperate need of Stampede volunteers especially for our week with the red stars. We need 2 more people for Tuesday April 7 and 3 more people for each day Wednesday April 8, Thursday April 9 and Monday April 13. Today we started with morning routine and reading stations and then we had literacy centers. Ask me which 2 jobs I did in literacy today. We continued our book that we started last week about cowboys while we ate our snacks and then we went outside to enjoy the fresh air for recess. When we came back in we learned all about painted ponies. Then we got to design our own painted pony. We were doing such a careful job we had to continue after lunch. Next we had gym all together. After that we did a music and sketchbook flip flop. In our sketchbooks we were continuing our work on horse equipment that we started last week with Mrs. Tipper. At the end of the day we had time for a short circle of courage. Important reminders: We are in desperate need of Stampede volunteers especially for our week with the red stars. Today was short and fast! First thing this morning we wrote a letter to Mr McNabb thanking him for the tickets to the Brier and sharing how much fun we had. Then we had to leave right away for swimming. It was sad that it was our last swimming day today. We really enjoyed swimming this week. Mrs. Tipper was so proud of us all week!! Ask me what I did on the last day of swimming. The bus was a bit late to pick us up and it was so nice outside that we enjoyed our time waiting and playing Duck Duck Goose. When we got back to school we had just enough time to have a snack and listen to a story then it was already home time. Important Reminders
Have a fantastic weekend and enjoy the warm weather. Love, The Grade 2s Hello Families,
Wow is this week ever flying by so fast! It is already Thursday!!! Well we had another great day. We went to swimming again today. We have one more day of swimming! Ask me what I learned in swimming today. When we got back we sketched a new mystery object from our Stampede Saddlebag. Ask me what it was and what it is used for. We made great connections to what we have been learning with this one. In the afternoon Mrs Caravan's class joined us and we had a very special horse presentation from Mrs Tipper. Mrs Tipper brought in pictures of her horses, some of her ribbons, her hats, an english and western saddle, a bridle, a halter, and a grooming kit. We even all got to sit in the saddles and have our picture taken. Ask me about some of the things I learned about horses. We talked about how horses were and still are used, and we sketched the different things she brought in. Lots of us were very excited to learn all about HORSES! Important Reminders
