This morning in math we compared prices of food in Calgary and Nunavut. We learned that the price of milk in Iqaluit is about $10 and about $5 in Calgary. We were very surprised that grapes are about $28 in Iqaluit and about $ 8 in Calgary. We discussed why the prices of food were significantly more expensive in Iqaluit due to its remoteness and limited methods of transportation required to take foods to the north in all seasons.
In the afternoon we looked at how water acts by doing an experiment. We used eye droppers to slowly drop water on a penny. We made a prediction of how many drops would fit before spilling over. We noticed that the water filled up and looked like jelly jiggling. It was also shaped like a dome or gem. Tomorrow we will be experimenting with different liquids to see if as many drops can fit on a penny.
