We snuggled in today during the cold, snowy weather. Unfortunately, we were unable to go skating but we made the best of the day and focused on our learning. During buddy reading, our "word explorer" job was to look for words with "sk" and "sc." We are wondering whether these letter combinations appear at the end or middle of words. So far, we've only found words where they are at the beginning of the word. While journal writing, we continued to concentrate on expressing our ideas clearly and adding extra details. We are getting better at including capitals and punctuation as we write. This morning in gym, we have begun a gymnastic unit. Our new read aloud is Surf's Up, Geronimo Stilton! It is a funny series which portrays the main character, Geronimo Stilton as a 'scaredy mouse.' However, he always goes on adventures and overcomes many obstacles. In Social Studies, we learned about 'cod fishing' and how it was very important to the Acadians and fishermen in the Maritimes.
We finished the day with a new poem by Shel Silverstein:
Come Skating
They said come skating;
They said it’s so nice.
They said come skating;
I’d done it twice.
They said come skating;
It sounded nice …
I wore roller –
They meant ice.
