This morning we practiced basketball skills in gym. We practiced tricks like hot potato, the mummy wrap and the figure 8. Ask me how to do each trick! Afterwards we had Daily 5. Today everyone worked really hard and impressed Ms. Watkins and Mrs. Stanford with how much they got done. The more we practice, the better we get! This afternoon we talked about what a sentence is. We decided that a sentence needs to be about "someone" doing "something". We then came up with a whole bunch of examples using the describing and action words that the class brainstormed yesterday about the Wild Things. For example, one sentence was, "The curly-haired Wild Things are stomping." Ask me what the action is in this sentence! We drew the picture to go along with our sentence to make sure we understood what we were writing. Some of us worked so hard that we completed 4 or more sentences! Woohooo! We also talked about the importance of punctuation marks (periods) and where they should go.
We hope you stay warm and have a good night!
Love,
The Grade Ones
A little note from the teachers:
We are really working on taking responsibility for our belongings. We have practiced the proper way to hang up our coats, hats, mittens and boots. With 48 kids in the classroom having things on the floor is a safety concern (not to mention frustrating!). After lunch, if there are items of clothing on the floor, they are being collected and put into the lost and found. The children are responsible for going to the lost and found to look for their items. To assist them at the lost and found, please write their name somewhere on their items. We are hoping that each family will discuss this at home to reiterate the importance of taking care of belongings. We're moms too, we know how much money you spend each year on winter gear! Yikes!
