Today we had a big conversation about the characteristics of Fairytales and Folktales. We figured out that Fairytales use magic to create or solve problems, while Folktale character's are required to solve their problems using their brains. For example, Cinderella is a Fairytale because her problems are solved with the use of magic from her Fairy Godmother. The Three Little Pigs however is a Folktale, they must use their brains to choose the right materials to build their houses. Ask me for some other characteristics of Fairytales!
Do you have a favourite Fairytale/Folktale?
We also started learning about Owls. Did you know that the largest owl is the Great Horned Owl and the smallest owl in North America is the Elf Owl. Adult Elf Owls are only 6 inches tall when they are full grown! We learned about Owl pellets and how scientists can use the pellets to learn about the eating habits of an owl! Cool, and a little gross. But mostly cool!
Reminder that Student-Led conferences are tomorrow evening (Thursday) and Friday during the day. As these are student-led, please make sure to bring your kiddo with you. They will be acting as your tour guide and have lots to show you!
Have a great evening!
Love,
