Dear Parents,
It was a wonderful day in Grade 2!
We started our day by reviewing the provinces and territories of Canada and then we discussed where the Acadians settled long ago! We also learned about the Acadian flag. We know that it is red, white and blue with a star in the corner. We are going to create an ABC book of all the interesting things we learn about Acadia! We can't wait to share it with you!
Next, Mrs. Goodall asked us to complete a spelling and punctuation activity using colour words. We had to create interesting sentences that will help us with our descriptve writing assignments. We also had to remember to use the correct punctuation at the end of our sentences. Our teachers also worked with us in our reading groups.
During Math, we reviewed our adding skills by playing a game called Race to 100. We rolled the dice and kept adding until we reached 100! You can even play this game at home! All you need is a chart with numbers to 100 and some dice! Who can be the first person to reach 100?
We were able to go outside for recess at lunchtime! It was good to get some fresh air and play in the snow! After lunch, we continued our research on Acadia by learning about an artist named Maud Lewis. Maud was a famous Canadian folk artist from Nova Scotia. She was known for her colourful paintings of outdoor scenes, like Cape Island boats bopping on the water, or beautiful lighthouses lining the coast of Nova Scotia. Using examples of Maud's art, we began to create our own paintings of an Eastern Canadian landscape! We think you will be very proud of our work!
