Dear Parents,
Welcome to day two of inside recess and lunch! Oh boy!
This morning we started off the day with Team Edit Tuesday. Today our letter was missing all of the punctuation marks. We were paying special attention to commas that are found in friendly letters. Ask me where commas must go in a friendly letter (hint: the heading, greeting and closing). Mrs. Stanford's group then went to music while Mrs. Goodall's group checked out the Global News weather error that was made on Friday. If you haven't heard, during the evening news the weather was accidently shown as -619 degrees. It ended up going viral! We know, studying hot and cold temperatures that -619 degrees would be deadly!
When Mrs. Stanford's group came back from music we went straight into Literacy. We had two jobs to do during literacy. Our first was to Read to Self. Our second job was to Read to Someone - with a twist. Today, while reading with someone, we were looking for compound words. We found some great ones. Here are some of our examples:
While we completed our jobs, Mrs. Goodall and Mrs. Stanford read with small groups. We had inside recess today so we read a story called Braids! by Robert Munsch. The story was about a little girl who doesn't enjoy getting her braids done because it takes hours! To get some energy out we had a little dance party.
We continued practicing double-digit addition using tens and ones manipulatives. Some of us worked on building really HUGE numbers and adding them up (we're talking HUGE!)
After lunch we watched The Magic School Bus episode called Cold Feet. It talked all about warm and cold blooded animals. We also talked about jobs done in Acadia. We focused on Lobster Fishing. Did you know that to purchase a lobster fishing permit you have to pay $420,000.00. That's the price of a house!!! We ended the day with gym where we got to practice our circus skills again! We looooove the devil sticks!
Have a great/warm night!
Love,
The Grade Twos
