Good afternoon!
Today we started a Word Block. This is a block of time during our day where we work on spelling words that we use frequently in our writing. This week, we are focusing on the words: after, again, any, ask, by and our challenge word is insulation. We will do several activities each day to practice spelling and reading these words. Activities may include: spelling sentences, creating our own word searches, making words (using the letters to make our words for the week plus other words), and searching for these words when we are reading. You can help us at home by asking how to spell these words, practicing printing these words, and pointing out these words when we are reading to you!
In Math, we finished up our unit on adding and subtracting double-digit numbers to 100. Our next unit will be numbers to 1000! We will start by making these numbers using base 10 blocks and pictures. You can help us by counting over 100, and by writing down numbers and asking us to tell you what they are (e.g. 545, 982 etc.)
In Science, we are learning to be engineers! We are going to design our own capsule to insulate an ice cube! We are learning that every scientific experiment involves 5 steps: 1. Asking a question, 2. Writing a hypothesis, 3. Listing materials, 4. Conducting the experiment, 5. Writing a conclusion.
In Social, we worked on letter J in our ABC's of Acadia book. Letter J stands for Jigg! Today we learned that music and dance were very important to the Acadians. The Acadians used spoons, fiddles, their voices, and drums to make music. We listened to traditional Acadian music. Even though the words were in French, we loved it! Ask us to explain what a fiddle is and we can even show you a jigg!
We finished the day with, Gym! Our new unit is Gymnastics! It is so fun!
Important Notes:
WE ARE GOING SKATING TOMORROW! Volunteers, please arrive at 10:00 and come into the classroom. Thanks so much for helping us tomorrow!
Please pack your skating gear and remember that we are eating lunch at the Oval.
Today we have come home with a book that is at our reading level. We would love to read it to you!
We will be switching our reading books every Tuesday.
Have a great night!
