Dear Parents,
Here's to a long weekend!! We made it!
This morning we had a bit of a different schedule due to our Remembrance Day assembly. We started off with a one-minute sketch (ok, it was really 2 minutes, but who's counting). We looked at a picture and then sketched it in our journals. We first looked at the shapes in the picture so we could get the basic idea of the picture. Our first picture was a wagon wheel (the old wooden kind with the spokes). We then tried sketching the Parliament Building. At first, we panicked! "I can't draw that?!?!?!" but then we broke it down into shapes and guess what -- we did it! We are going to be practicing more quick sketches to prepare us for our trips to the Art Commons and Spark.
The Remembrance Day Assembly was beautiful. We were quiet and respectful. We remembered not to clap after the songs and showed respect by sitting quietly throughout the whole performance. We even had Master Corporal Baines join us to accept letters of thanks that the grade three students wrote. We were pretty excited to see a "real soldier"!
In math we worked on adding three single-digit numbers together. This week we have really focused on addition! By this point, we should have a good grasp on the doubles to 10+10.
After lunch we had gym outside. We needed a big area to throw the frisbees and our gym was still filled with chairs from our assembly. The fresh air was nice. When we came in we performed another Science Experiment. The object of the experiment was to see if a pin would float or sink in water. Wellllllll..... the pin was supposed to float, but they didn't! The only person who could get the pin to float was Ms. Watkins! We then looked at Water Striders. They are bugs that have 6 tiny feet covered in hair that doesn't absorb water. Because of this, the feet don't stick to the water. They use the surface tension of the water to hold them up.
We hope you all enjoy the long weekend together!
Love,
The Grade Twos
