Good afternoon!
This morning Mrs. Goodall's group went to music while Mrs. Stanford's group discussed some current events. We talked about Trump's Inauguration as well as the Women's March. We talked a little bit about our rights as children in Canada (the right to go to school, the right to clean water, the right to feel safe, etc.).
In gym we played a new game. One partner threw a nerf ball in the air while the other player tried to knock it down with a bean bag. We were learning that overhand throws have more power than underhand throws. Afterwards we learned a new poem about Chinese New Years! Did you know that 2017 is the year of the Rooster?! Most of us figured out that according to the Chinese Lunar calendar, we are Rats or Ox (even Mrs. Stanford!)
Our literacy focus for this week is the "ee" and "ea" sounds. We found some while reading to self and then we read with a partner and had to spy out more "ee or ea" words. Ask me to tell you what "ee" and "ea" sounds like! Maybe I could even give you an example.
This afternoon we started double-digit subtraction. We need to practice our single digit subtraction! This will make it a lot easier for us. We then finished the day learning about thermometers. We placed thermometers around the room and will check what happens to the temperature in different places.
