Good afternoon! We had a fun day here in school. This morning we had music/gym/gym flip-pity flop. In music, Ms. Watkins' group practiced for the Big Chill performance. In gym we all practiced catching and throwing different objects by doing a relay. We had to get three catches in a row to move to the next level (step backwards). We are learning that for some distances, an underhand throw might be better but for others, you may need to use an overhand throw to get more power. After gym we read a story about Poppies and then wrote a very insightful journal entry discussing why we wear poppies. We ended the morning by playing Addition Bingo. At a table of four, one person was the 'caller'. They rolled three dice and we had to add up the dice to find the number. We are working on counting on, looking for doubles, and finding 'friendly numbers' to ten. It was so much fun that we forgot we were working on our mental math skills!
This afternoon we did a really fun science experiment. Each table group was given a dixie cup FULL of water. We then added paper clips to see how many we could add before the water overflowed. Before we started we made predictions. Some of us could fit in over 170 paper clips! Afterwards we discussed why we could fit paper clips in even when the cups were already full. We talked about surface tension and how water likes to stick together! We were cheering and so excited to do this experiment.
Enjoy your night!
Love,
