We kicked off this short week with our crazy gym/music/gym flip-pity flop. In Music Ms. Watkins' group finished practicing their song for the Big Chill. In gym we all learned a new warm up and then had our first Pickle Ball lesson! Pickle Ball was invented by three kids who were bored after school one day. The paddle looks sort of like a tennis racket but it's hard! We used small whiffle balls or tennis balls. When we came back from gym we had a half an hour to practice a word work task. Ask me what I accomplished today! (postcard, comic, story, poem, character trading card, etc.)
This morning there was a mystery trunk in our room! We knew that it was from the Glenbow Museum and used that information to guess what was inside the trunk. When we came back from lunch, Ms. Watkins' showed us some of the artifacts inside the trunk. We are going to start working with them tomorrow. The Glenbow gave us specific instructions on how to handle the artifacts. Ask me what I have to wear to touch an item?
This afternoon we investigated a Leonardo Da Vinci journal entry. We came up with specific criteria that made his entry a great one. Some of the things we came up with were:
- he drew a detailed picture
- he used shading to show dimension
- he wrote notes about his work
- his work used the whole page
- it was neat and organized
We then talked about things that we think he should have added to make it even better (because even experts can improve upon their work). We came up with:
- adding a date
- adding a title
- adding color (we talked about how some scientific drawings don't use color but that we like it all the same)
- adding labels
We are excited to explore the Inuit artifacts tomorrow!
Have a great evening,
Love,
The Grade Twos
