This morning we released our butterflies to the garden since they had been butterflies for over five days and we don't want them to lay eggs inside our enclosure, we want them to be outside. One of the butterflies just got out of its cocoon, it's wings were still wet and were all wrapped around it's body. We are working on art and are drawing half of a butterfly with details of the wing. We will finish it on Monday. We did Ketchup and Pickles.
We enjoyed the Kindergarten Assembly also. It was their first show! We are bringing home our pioneer home and land. Love, The Grade Twos First, a great big thank you to all of the volunteers that came on our walk today to Fish Creek - we couldn't go without you! We went to Fish Creek park and it took us less than 15 minutes to walk there. We saw lots of interesting animals in the park: rabbits, grasshopper, some birds, a bee was caught (!), insects, spiders, ants and a moth. It was great to see the animals in their habitats. We played an animal game later this afternoon when we were at school. Ask me what animal I was, what it eats and what it's predators are?
It was unplugged Thursday, so we didn't use any technology all day. In they gym we played soccer Bandits, there were more people left than we thought. In math we learned how to pick the best four cards of a hand of five for Cribbage. We have a Kindergarten assembly tomorrow morning to go and watch. Love, The Grade Twos Today we had 20 butterflies hatch in their enclosure! We journaled and wrote a lot of things about butterflies. We learned that butterflies need certain things to survive such as pollen and nectar, shelter and protection. Out butterflies are orange, white, brown, black and a little gray. If you look super close you can see turquoise!
Some Grade Fours told us some very funny jokes this morning. In music we played a new game in groups of three: reader, whisperer and writer. We reviewed the meaning of music notes. We played different math card games to practice one more/one less and the number 10. Some one in our class won Walking Wednesday! They picked out a black Evergreen school sweater. We had a lovely substitute teacher today, she was lots of fun! Love, The Grade Twos Today something very exciting happened! We had three chrysalis turn into butterflies. In gym we had our warm up again, the some one we have done for two weeks. We also played soccer bandits. We went to music and in music we played Wax Museum, Freeze Dance and the Beat Game. We read a story called Spork and learned a message that you should not change things about yourself and be happy with who you are.
We still do not have enough volunteers to go on our community walk on Thursday. If you can help, please email Ms. Watkins. If we do not get any more, we will have to cancel the Fish Creek outing. Love, The Grade Twos Today, at the end of the day, the whole school went outside to pick up garbage in our playground and naturalization areas. The good news is that there wasn't much to be found. Thank you to the Grade Fours for this initiative...we look forward to the activities you have planned for the rest of the week!
Our butterflies are now all in a chrysalis (see if I can tell you the other two words that mean the same thing?). They are busy, even though we can't see what they are doing. We are doing research on what flowers butterflies like to get their pollen from and which flowers will grow well in our Zone 3 climate. Let us know if you find some others that we haven't discovered yet. We are doing some planning for our butterfly garden. We are planning on going on a community walk to Fish Creek on Thursday morning, leaving at 10am and returning for lunchtime at the school. Please email Ms. Watkins ([email protected]) if you can come and volunteer for a few hours that morning. We will be going to look at the environment of insects and look for other small, crawling and flying animals in their natural habitat. Have a wonderful warm evening, Ms. Watkins Today we finished up any last building of our pioneer home, the livestock and planting our fields to feed our livestock. We had a wonderful Grade Four assembly to celebrate all of their learning, heard some handbells songs and saw some great slide shows about these special students. They are the first class to have gone through our school from Kindergarten to Grade Four!
We need to think about: what we should add to our butterfly enclosure, what we would like to make for our Little Green Thumbs celebration on June 17 and any ideas we have for obstacles for our Mudless Evergreen Mudder on June 26. Have a wonderful weekend & enjoy the nice weather! Ms. Watkins Today we read and looked for rhymes in a poem written by one of our classmates. It was about short winter days and long summer days - ask me if I remember when the longest day of the year will be? It's coming up soon! We got to buy our livestock and make them out of plasticine and buy their food too...our pioneer village is developing. Ask me what we played today in PE?
Tomorrow is a Grade Four Assembly, we will be going to that at 10:30. It is also Volunteer Tea at 9:45 for any of our wonderful volunteer parents that would like to attend. There will be refreshments, a handbell performance and you can stay for the assembly too. Ms. Watkins Today we learned about our butterfly's habitats. We went to music and we used awesome rhythms. We played a game with musical feelings. We worked on our pioneer village houses and got some sheets to buy animals and their food. We did journal writing today, and we got to write as pioneers. We learned that butterflies need certain things like nectar, a good home, and shelter as well as a good place to build their chrysalis. We also read a news article and learned that bees are dying because it is hard for them to live. Bees are important for our food! They are becoming endangered and it could be from chemicals that are supposed to keep bad pests away - but it also keeps the bees away.
Love, The Grade Twos Today we worked on finished our Flower Art from Friday, some of still have to complete this. It's good to take your time with the details! We had Daily Five as usual. Ask me what we did in PE outside with Mrs. Roworth? In the afternoon we bought our supplies for house building - what did we buy with 35 cents as our budget? When the math was all correct, we got our supplies and are building a log house or a soddie. We will continue building tomorrow. There were changes with our caterpillars over the weekend, ask me to tell you what I noticed with mine.
Have a great evening, Ms. Watkins |
AuthorWe are a Grade Two class who blogs about our day at the end of each school day. This gives our parents hints to start conversations about our day. We also put reminders here for parents. Archives
