!Happy Snowy Weather (Will it ever be spring?)
Today we started our day with some word work and then we went to the Music room to participate in a dance workshop. We will be dancing everyday for the next two weeks. We have two groups for word work (so our teachers can work with smaller groups). Mr. Knitters words are: her, what, school. went, number, every, friends, dollars, they, grass Mrs. Goodall words are: see, where, three, two, yellow, you, we After recess, we started our new Math unit on place value. We talked about the different ways we can represent a number: using numbers, with pictures, or with words. We did really well with numbers (e.g. 6+7 =13) and pictures (using tallies or base-ten blocks) but struggled to use words (e.g. 13=thirteen). Next, we continued to work on our new unit in Science. Magnetism! We worked in groups to discover things that are magnetic in our classroom. It was lots of fun! Finally, we worked on letter N in our ABC's of Acadia book. N stands for Nova Scotia and New Brunswick. Where the Acadians lived is now the Eastern part of Canada. Reminders: We will exchange our reading books tomorrow (these are not the library books). Our teachers handed out new book orders. They are due Friday. We sent our letters home on Friday. Please write back when you have a chance. Beach day Thursday!!! Wear your summer clothes, hats and sunglasses!!! Don't forget to bring a towel! Love, The Grade Twos Dear Reader,
We had gym very first thing. Our school received a number of tennis balls and it was our job to come up with some games to make with them. It was fun. Some of the games we tried were pylon hockey, throwing and catching, obstacle courses, bowling and stacking. Afterwards we worked together as a group to write a letter. Ask us what it was about! Then snack time happened. It went crunch crunch, chomp chomp, munch munch. Once that very onomatopoetic time was over, we worked on some catch up work for the rest of the day, except for a brief half hour of music. Due to a special music activity next week, we will have to have beach day on Thursday, March 9. Wear your shorts, t-shirts, sunglasses, and hats so we can have so fun in the sun! Don't forget to pack something to wear outside because we will still need to go out for recess. Enjoy the weekend, The Grade 2s Hello parents, friends and other family members,
Today was really all about skating! But we did do some other things too. At the start of the day we came in and were given a brown paper bag. Inside was a plastic animal that we had to describe without saying its name. We then got a chance to share our descriptions with the class. After that it was snack and then off to skating! We rode the bus to the oval and had some lunch. After a quick game of who stole the cookie we got onto the ice and skated. When we got back we got told about something we can try at home for the month of March. We each got a bingo sheet with some activities we can try at home. Some are for learning and some are ways we can help out at home. If we complete a row or a column we can bring back our sheet to show to the teacher for a prize. You can even complete the whole sheet! Also today we have been trying to get enough diamonds to earn a reward as a class. We have been getting diamonds when we listen well or do a good job in the classroom. Today we earned enough that we are going to have a beach day next Friday, March 10! There will be more details to come on what that means. Have a wonderful Thursday evening, The Grade 2s. Good Afternoon Families! We had a great morning in Grade 2! Our custodian, Mr. Fred, came in to talk about lobster trapping! Mr. Fred is from Nova Scotia! He came dressed in a rain coat, rubber boots and a fisherman's rain hat with a lobster on the top! He read a story about lobster trapping that explained how lobsters are trapped and which lobsters you are allowed to keep and which ones have to be thrown back into the ocean. He also explained how the lobsters get into the trap and why they cannot get out. Ask us about this process! After our fresh air break, we wrote our Math test. It was challenging to write a test for the first time but we tried our best! We had a great time running around at lunch and then we came in for Science. We started a new unit on Magnetism. Today we talked about what we know about magnets and what we would like to find out about magnets. We finished the day with Art. We talked about the Mi'kmaq artist, Alan Syliboy, who incorporates elements of traditional Mi'kmaq art into his paintings. We began to work on our own Alan Slyiboy pictures like the one shown below: Have a great night!
